Best AI Visibility Tools in 2026: ChatGPT, AIO & Gemini AUQ Content Team Jul 2, 2025 (Upd Sep 18, 2026) · 30 min read Table of contentsKey takeawaysAI visibility tools compared: platforms, free tiers and pricingAll-in-one AI visibility platformsEnterprise AI visibility platformsSEO suites with AI visibility trackingAI Overview trackers and checkersChatGPT SEO rank trackers and LLM visibility toolsGemini visibility trackersFree AI visibility tools and manual checksWhat AI visibility tools measureWhy an AI citation is different from a Google rankingHow ChatGPT rank tracking worksHow to use an AI visibility tool, step by stepHow to choose an AI visibility tool for your stage and goalA free AI visibility tracking workflowWhat to do with the data: mentions, listicles and citationsFinal thoughts AI visibility tools track whether ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude mention or cite your brand when buyers ask about your category. They measure answer inclusion, share of voice, sentiment and the sources behind each citation. The right one depends on the platforms you need, your budget and your existing SEO stack. I’ve been doing SEO since 2010, when my job as a college intern was leaving comments on forums. For most of that time, a rank tracker told you where you stood. It can’t tell you whether ChatGPT recommends you. This guide merges seven of our earlier roundups into one list of 67 tools and methods, grouped by what each does best, with our own free checker first. Key takeaways Answer inclusion is the core metric: AI search has no position 1, so visibility is the share of prompts and runs in which an assistant names or cites you. Start with a free baseline: the AUQ AI Search Ranking Tool, Mangools AI Search Grader and manual checks in ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude cost nothing and show where you stand today. Platform coverage varies widely: SEOMonitor, Authoritas, Nozzle and thruuu track only Google AI Overviews, while Profound and Superprompt cover ten or more engines. Your SEO suite may already track AI: Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking, Surfer, Moz and Nightwatch have all added AI visibility features. The useful tools point to actions: replacement analysis, citation sources and missing prompts tell you what to publish and where to earn mentions. Mentions deserve equal billing with links: a brand named on the pages AI engines already cite shows up in their answers, with or without a link. AI visibility tools compared: platforms, free tiers and pricing The table below covers all 67 tools and methods in this guide, with the platforms each one tracks according to the vendor information we collected. Prices change often in this category, so treat every figure as a starting point to check. A dash means the platform or free tier wasn’t listed. # Tool Best for ChatGPT AI Overviews AI Mode Gemini Perplexity Claude Free tier Starting price 1 AUQ AI Search Ranking Tool A free, instant AI across several AI assistants at once. This is where most SaaS teams should shop. I’d start at the top of this group and only move to the enterprise tier once a baseline shows AI search is worth the spend. 1. AUQ AI Search Ranking Tool: best for a free, instant AI visibility baseline Enter your domain and the tool checks how ChatGPT and Gemini answer questions in your category, then lines your brand up against competitors. The output includes a share-of-voice table, competitor rankings and a prioritized list of prompts where your brand is missing. It’s ours, so weigh my opinion accordingly. We built it as the first thing a team runs before paying for anything else on this list. Best for: SaaS and B2B teams, agencies and SEOs who want a baseline in under a minute. Platforms: ChatGPT and Gemini. Strengths: It needs no sign-up or credit card, compares you side by side with competitors, finds gaps and gives optimization recommendations based on live AI answers. Watch-outs: It’s a snapshot of two platforms, so ongoing multi-engine tracking needs one of the paid tools below. Pricing: Free, with unlimited domains and queries. Run the free AI Search Ranking Tool 2. Canonry: best for technical teams who want self-hosted, agent-driven AEO monitoring Canonry is a free, open-source AEO monitoring system that runs on your own machine and keeps all data in a single local SQLite file. It tracks citations across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity through APIs and live browser sessions, plus any OpenAI-compatible local model via Ollama, LM Studio or vLLM. The browser provider drives a real Chrome session against the live ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude interfaces, so you capture what users see when web search changes the answer. Every CLI command outputs JSON, 118 REST endpoints mirror the dashboard, and 48 MCP tools let Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or the bundled Aero agent query citation evidence, trigger sweeps and request indexing. Best for: developers, SEO engineers and privacy-conscious teams who want to own their data and automate the detect, diagnose, fix and verify loop. Strengths: It diagnoses citation regressions, runs schema and content fix workflows, and connects to Google Search Console, GA4, Bing Webmaster Tools and WordPress. Watch-outs: It’s built for people comfortable with a CLI or a coding agent. Pricing: Free and open source, installed via Homebrew, npm or Docker in under a minute. The code is on GitHub. 3. Promptwatch: best for content strategists who want source-level guidance Disclosure: Promptwatch is an AUQ partner. Promptwatch analyzes how your content performs in Gemini and other LLMs, identifies which sources AI models cite for your target prompts and turns that into content strategy guidance. Best for: content strategists, advanced SEOs and digital marketers. Platforms: ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and DeepSeek. Pricing: A free tier is available, and paid plans start at $49/mo. 4. Peec AI: best for agencies that need multi-language, multi-seat reporting Peec AI was built for AI search analytics from day one. It separates brand mentions, where the answer names you, from source citations, where your content informs the answer without naming you. Prompts run daily, so you get trend lines in place of one-off snapshots. Every tier includes unlimited user seats, and its multi-language tracking was the widest language coverage among the AI Overview tools we compared. Best for: agencies and mid-market marketing teams reporting across countries and languages. Platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, with Gemini and Claude as add-ons. Strengths: It covers sentiment and share of voice per prompt, branded and non-branded prompts, source insights on which domains AI cites, missed-prompt alerts, competitor benchmarking, exports and a Looker Studio connector. Pricing: Starter €89/mo (about $95), Pro €199/mo and Enterprise €499+/mo, scaling by prompts and regions, with a 14-day trial. 5. Otterly AI: best for startups and lean teams on a tight budget Otterly automates brand mention audits across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini. Its Brand Visibility Index gives you one number to track, and reports export cleanly for clients, investors and stakeholders. Otterly reports more than 20,000 marketing professionals as users, along with recognition from G2, OMR and Gartner. It’s strongest at answering “Do AI engines mention us at all?”, and teams that need deep strategy work tend to outgrow it. For a seed-stage SaaS team buying its first paid tracker, this is where I’d look first. Best for: startups, lean marketing teams and agencies watching costs. Strengths: It offers prompt tracking, citation audits, share of voice and sentiment per prompt and platform, Google Search Console import, scheduled checks and competitor monitoring across six AI platforms. Watch-outs: The Lite tier covers only 10 prompts. Pricing: Lite $29/mo (10 prompts), Standard $189/mo and Pro $989/mo (1,000 prompts), with a 14-day trial. One of our earlier reviews listed the entry price at $39/mo. 6. AthenaHQ: best for growth-stage SaaS teams that need attribution AthenaHQ combines multi-engine prompt tracking with an Action Center that turns visibility gaps into a prioritized task list. It was founded by engineers from Google Search and DeepMind, and it ties AI visibility changes to traffic and ROI. Best for: growth-stage SaaS and mid-market brands, including teams expanding into new international markets. Platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Copilot and Grok. Strengths: It sends citation and gap alerts, flags competitor impersonation, runs content fix workflows and uses a credit-based model. Pricing: Starter from $295/mo, with Growth and Enterprise tiers that include managed services. 7. Rankscale AI: best for data-driven SEOs who want low-cost daily tracking Rankscale tracks brands daily across the major LLMs, with dashboards for sentiment, citations and competitors. Its AI Readiness Score audits how well your site’s technical setup and content structure suit LLM retrieval. Pricing runs on credits, which suits project work: you pay per AI answer pull and can target by geography and mode, such as browsing versus default ChatGPT. It holds a 4.8/5 rating on SourceForge. Best for: data-savvy SEOs, agencies and multi-brand managers. Platforms: ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Gemini, with DeepSeek listed in one of our reviews. Pricing: Essentials €20 (120 credits), Pro €99 (1,200 credits) and Enterprise €780 (12,000 credits). 8. ZipTie: best for solo marketers who need screenshot evidence ZipTie (ziptie.dev) captures the exact AI Overview text and generative answers with screenshots, which gives you an auditable record for client reports and performance reviews. Its AI Success Score combines mention frequency, sentiment and citation strength into one priority metric. Best for: solo operators, SMBs and PR teams who need monitoring and reporting evidence in one place. Platforms: Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity, with Gemini listed in one review. Strengths: It imports Google Search Console queries to seed prompts, sends weekly email alerts, tracks AI Overviews in multiple countries and filters by sentiment and mention type. Pricing: Basic $99/mo (400 checks), Standard $319/mo and Pro $699/mo, with a 14-day trial and a limited freemium tier. 9. Hall: best for beginners exploring AI visibility for free Hall offers a free Lite plan for 25 prompts, enough to see whether AI answers cite you before you pay for anything. It tracks brand mentions, page citations, AI bot logs, agent analytics and conversational commerce, and it produces free shareable reports. Hall is backed by a $2M pre-seed round. Best for: beginners, SMBs and marketers in the early stages of a GEO or AEO program. Platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Copilot. Pricing: Free Lite plan; our earlier reviews listed paid Starter at $129/mo and about $199/mo, with Growth and Enterprise tiers above it. 10. LLMrefs: best for SMB SaaS teams that want a freemium LLM keyword tracker LLMrefs is an AI keyword explorer and rank tracker for generative search, with live keyword crawling, keyword-level rankings, URL citations, weekly trend reports and a proprietary LLMrefs Score. Its GEO hygiene guidance helps small teams fix the technical issues that stop AI crawlers reaching their content. Best for: solo marketers, startups and SMB SaaS teams on a tight budget. Platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Claude. Pricing: Freemium, with Pro at $79/mo and custom enterprise plans. 11. Am I On AI: best for first audits and full response archives Am I On AI stores full AI responses along with their source citations. That archive helps teams that document AI-generated content for compliance or legal review. Best for: SMBs running a first AI visibility audit and compliance-sensitive teams. Platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. Strengths: It runs prompt-level scans with visibility scores, sentiment and competitor share of voice, and onboarding is quick. Pricing: A 14-day trial with no card, then $99 to $100/mo. 12. Scrunch AI: best for teams that want to fix how AI crawlers see their site Scrunch pairs visibility analytics with an Agent Experience Platform (AXP) that builds an AI-crawler layer and delivers AI-optimized content directly to LLMs. Its replacement analysis shows which competitor took your place when you drop out of an answer, and in which prompts. Best for: enterprise brands and agencies investing in proactive AI discovery. Platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Claude. Strengths: It detects misinformation, checks AI readiness, analyzes AI traffic and bot logs, maps the journey from prompt to conversion and monitors prompts across multiple brands. Pricing: Core from $300/mo for 350 prompts, with Agency, Enterprise and custom AXP pricing. 13. Gumshoe AI: best for persona-based audience research Gumshoe reverse-engineers realistic prompts from audience personas, their roles and their pain points. It then shows brand reach in a topic-by-persona visibility matrix, which suits brands whose buyer segments ask very different questions. Best for: marketers who need audience-level insight into AI answers. Platforms: Perplexity Sonar, Gemini Flash, Claude 3.5 and OpenAI Mini, with GPT-4 via plugin. Strengths: It detects hallucinations and tracks citation sources per persona. Pricing: Free public beta, with pricing to be announced. 14. xFunnel: best for enterprises that want analyst support with the data xFunnel.AI combines cross-model prompt testing, citation and response-intent analytics and buyer journey mapping with expert playbooks and dedicated analyst support. Its coverage of Claude, Copilot and Google AI Mode fills gaps left by ChatGPT-first tools. Best for: agencies, global marketing teams and enterprise content teams without in-house GEO expertise. Platforms: Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Google AI Mode, Perplexity and ChatGPT. Strengths: It offers semantic trigger analysis, custom dashboards and an experimentation platform. Pricing: A free plan, with custom paid plans. 15. Trakkr: best for growth teams tracking LLM crawler activity Trakkr shows which of your pages LLM crawlers visit most. You can prioritize those pages for GEO work, then check whether the changes lift citations and AI referral traffic. Best for: growth marketers and SEO teams. Platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude. Strengths: It reports mention and ranking distribution, prompt performance and AI referral traffic. Pricing: From $49/mo, with a limited free version. 16. Geneo AI: best for mid-sized teams that want enterprise workspaces on a free tier Geneo pairs real-time GEO monitoring and historical query tracking with multi-brand workspaces, an unusual combination on a free tier. Its AI content prompts turn visibility gaps into content recommendations. Best for: content-driven mid-sized businesses early in AI visibility adoption. Platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude. Pricing: A free tier, then flexible credit-based plans. 17. RivalSee: best for persona-based visibility scores on an SMB budget RivalSee models queries the way buyer personas ask them, then scores your visibility across five LLMs. Side-by-side competitor comparisons and recommendations are tied to each gap. Best for: SMBs and agencies that want purchase-intent visibility data. Platforms: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini. Pricing: Startup $69.99/mo and Pro $129.99/mo. 18. Essio.ai: best for a structured multi-assistant visibility audit Essio.ai scores AI visibility per keyword cluster across several assistants and identifies the top-cited URLs, yours and competitors’. Keyword association and gap analysis show which pages earn citations and which get overlooked. Best for: mid-market to large brands. Platforms: ChatGPT, Google AI, Perplexity and Claude. Pricing: From $75/mo. 19. Waikay: best for catching AI misinformation about your brand Waikay scores how AI models perceive your brand and fact-checks what they say about it automatically. It flags knowledge gaps and outdated claims, and it keeps a history of how model perceptions change. That matters most after a rebrand, acquisition or product pivot, and in regulated industries. Best for: brands managing AI-generated reputation. Platforms: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude. Pricing: $19.95/mo for 8 credits, with enterprise options. Enterprise AI visibility platforms Enterprise AI visibility platforms add scale, governance and services on top of tracking: thousands of prompts, hallucination detection, compliance and, often, a strategist. They make sense when a team is already staffed to act on the findings. Without that, most of the data goes unused. 20. Profound: best for Fortune 500 brands with GEO teams ready to act on the data Profound was one of the first purpose-built AI search monitoring platforms, and it captures user-facing data from front-end interactions across 10+ AI engines. It runs large-scale synthetic prompt testing, hallucination detection, AI crawler logs including GPTBot activity, and a Conversation Explorer that surfaces brand mentions and unmet conversation demand. It was named a G2 Winter 2026 Leader in the AEO category. It’s SOC 2 compliant, offers API access and can add a dedicated AI strategist. Profound sits at the enterprise end of the price range. In my view it’s more than most SaaS teams need, and its depth only pays off when content operations are already in place to act on it. Best for: Fortune 500 companies, large enterprises and agencies. Platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grok, Meta AI, DeepSeek, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode and Amazon AI. Pricing: Lite from $499/mo, with custom enterprise plans. 21. Gauge: best for enterprise SaaS teams tying AI visibility to pipeline Gauge runs hundreds of prompts a day across buyer personas and connects AI visibility to pipeline and revenue metrics. Its Action Center prioritizes optimization work, and competitor intelligence shows where you’re losing ground. Best for: enterprise SaaS and B2B growth teams. Platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Gemini. Pricing: Custom quote. 22. Goodie AI: best for regulated and research-heavy brands Goodie is a GEO diagnostic suite that scores brand trust in LLMs, flags hallucinations and correlates structured data with citation likelihood. It adds real-time analytics, share of voice, sentiment and benchmark reports. Best for: regulated verticals, knowledge-driven brands and enterprise SEO teams. Platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Claude, Gemini and DeepSeek. Pricing: Custom enterprise pricing; one of our reviews listed it as a closed beta. 23. Evertune AI: best for teams managing an AI brand score Evertune specializes in GEO, with brand monitoring, an AI Brand Score, sentiment tracking and optimization strategies. Best for: AI-focused marketing teams. Platforms: Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude and DeepSeek. Pricing: Enterprise pricing, by demo. 24. Superlines: best for connecting AI visibility to GA4 traffic Superlines treats GEO as a growth channel, with multi-platform mention tracking, share of voice, citation improvement recommendations and competitor benchmarking. Its GA4 integration links AI visibility to traffic and conversion outcomes. Best for: businesses running cross-platform GEO programs. Platforms: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Mistral. Pricing: Custom enterprise pricing. 26. Deepserp: best for full AI audits in regulated industries Deepserp is a suite for AI audit, optimization and monitoring built from four modules: DeepAudit, CrawlFlux, CiteRank and PromptFlow. It covers traffic and bot log analysis plus perception and citation tracking. Best for: marketers, founders and SEO leaders in regulated industries. Platforms: Gemini, ChatGPT and Claude. Pricing: Enterprise pricing on request. SEO suites with AI visibility tracking Most major SEO suites now track AI Overviews and LLM answers inside the same dashboards as classic rankings. If you already pay for one of these, I’d test its AI features before buying a separate tool. The workflow gain usually outweighs small feature differences. 27. Semrush: best for teams already on Semrush Semrush tracks AI visibility in two places. The AI SEO Toolkit, also sold as the AI Visibility Toolkit, gives you a 0-100 visibility score against competitors, prompt-level tracking, quote-level sentiment, market share and a Topics & Sources view of which of your pages AI answers reference. If you already pay for Semrush, I’d switch this on before trialling anything else. It also raises a “missed” flag when an answer cites your URL without naming your brand. Position Tracking adds AI Mode and AI Overview tracking beside classic rankings, with hyper-local tracking down to city or ZIP code in the US. Best for: SEO teams and agencies already inside the Semrush ecosystem. Platforms: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Grok, Perplexity, DeepSeek and Bing AI. Strengths: The Copilot assistant surfaces prioritized alerts and recommendations, and workflow automations sit in the dashboard you already use. Watch-outs: For teams without a Semrush subscription, the combined cost is harder to justify at an early stage. Pricing: The AI toolkit is a $99/mo add-on per domain on a Pro, Guru or Business plan, with Pro listed at $139.95/mo and Position Tracking plans from $119.95/mo. Limited free access exists, and AI Overview tracking at enterprise scale is custom. 28. Ahrefs Brand Radar: best for Ahrefs users who want AI citations tied to backlink data Ahrefs builds Brand Radar’s prompts from real “People Also Ask” questions mined from its database of 110 billion keywords, then runs them through AI platforms: more than 243 million prompts a month. You’re tracking how AI answers questions people ask, and Site Explorer connects each citation to backlink and content data. It also tracks mentions on YouTube, TikTok and Reddit. For me, the citation source data is the reason to use it, because it shows which sites to earn mentions on. Best for: existing Ahrefs users and brands focused on link authority. Platforms: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Bing AI. Strengths: It reports AI share of voice, weighted position, sentiment, topic clusters of AI prompts, competitor citations and a Google Search Console overlay, with AI-powered filters. Pricing: Ahrefs has priced Brand Radar several ways. Our earlier reviews recorded free beta access on plans from $129/mo, inclusion in Advanced and Agency plans from $179/mo, a $188+/mo figure, a $199/mo per-index add-on on Standard plans and above, and a $699/mo Brand Radar tier. 29. SE Ranking: best for SMBs and agencies that want AI tracking inside an all-in-one suite SE Ranking has sold its AI tracking under several names across our reviews: AI Visibility Tracker, AI Overviews Tracker, AI Results Tracker, Gemini Visibility Tracker and AI Toolkit. Together they cover AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, with a dedicated Gemini module for competitor comparisons. The “No cited” report lists prompts where competitors are cited and you aren’t. Data refreshes daily, keeps cached copies of AI answers and stores history, so SERP feature history shows how stable your AI placement is. Best for: SMBs and agencies using SE Ranking for local and national SEO. Strengths: It tracks brand mentions, links and mention placement, benchmarks competitors, runs on-page AI SEO and content gap checks, and offers white-label reports and a Looker Studio connector. Pricing: Pro $119/mo and Business $259/mo, with a 14-day trial. Our reviews listed AI tracking both as included and as a paid add-on, and entry plans at $39, $55 and $65/mo. 30. Surfer AI Tracker: best for content teams already on Surfer Surfer’s AI Tracker monitors brand mentions prompt by prompt and shows which pages, yours or competitors’, AI answers pull from. It smooths the variance in ChatGPT answers and sends weekly trend reports. The draw is the content editor. You find the topics generating AI citations and optimize the page in the same tool. Best for: SurferSEO customers and content marketers publishing at scale. Platforms: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity and Gemini. Pricing: $95/mo for 25 prompts up to $495/mo for 300 prompts, with volume discounts. The Scale plan ($219/mo) includes 5 prompts. 31. Writesonic: best for teams that want monitoring and content production in one tool Writesonic’s GEO platform tracks brand mentions, tone and sentiment across AI engines, analyzes AI crawler activity and feeds visibility data into content briefs. You can also simulate prompts to test positioning before a full GEO campaign. Best for: content teams, growth-stage startups and SME owners. Platforms: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews and Grok. Pricing: A free plan, with Starter listed at $16/mo and $20/mo in different reviews. The AI and SEO visibility plans run Starter $199/mo, Professional $399/mo and Enterprise custom. 32. Moz Pro: best for teams standardized on Moz Moz Pro flags AI Overview presence directly inside rank reports, alongside keyword research, site crawls, domain authority and competitor discovery. ChatGPT checks stay manual. Best for: SMBs, startups and teams already on Moz. Platforms: Google AI Overviews, with cross-device and location tracking. Pricing: Listed from $49/mo and from $99/mo in different reviews. 33. BrightEdge AI Catalyst: best for global enterprises inside BrightEdge BrightEdge AI Catalyst runs AI Overview forensics on a large proprietary prompt dataset, with a Generative Parser, multi-language GEO analytics, entity optimization and knowledge graph alignment. It separates mobile from desktop AI performance and exports board-ready reports. Best for: global enterprise brands managing thousands of assets across regions and languages. Platforms: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Claude. Pricing: Enterprise contracts, typically five figures a year. 34. seoClarity: best for enterprises combining SEO signals with AI Overview data seoClarity’s AI Overviews tracker (Clarity ArcAI) runs bot-level crawlability checks to confirm AI can reach your content. It tracks AI snippets over time, benchmarks competitors at scale and ties SEO recommendations to AI Overview performance. Best for: large enterprises managing big keyword portfolios. Platforms: Google AI Overviews. Pricing: Custom enterprise. 35. Frase: best for building question-first content briefs Frase builds content briefs from SERP questions and People Also Ask data, scores content and generates PAA-driven outlines. For AI visibility, its value is answering the sub-queries AI engines use when they synthesize an answer. Best for: content teams and growth marketers. Platforms: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity. Pricing: From $44.99/mo. 36. Search Atlas OTTO SEO: best for small teams that want automated fixes OTTO runs automated AI-powered SEO audits and visibility tracking, detects technical and content issues and gives prioritized recommendations. It suits small teams and WordPress users without a dedicated SEO. Platforms: ChatGPT and Perplexity. Pricing: A 7-day free trial, then Starter from $99/mo. 37. GA4 AI referral tracking: best for measuring what AI visibility is worth GA4 shows sessions arriving from ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity once you filter traffic sources, with page-level and source-level analysis. That’s the closest free measure of the revenue AI answers drive, beyond mention counts. I’d set this up before buying any tracker. For the wider setup, see our guide to GA4 for SaaS. Pricing: Free. 65. ChatGPT manual check: best for quick ChatGPT spot checks Ask ChatGPT “What are the best tools for [your category]?” and “Tell me about [your brand]” to see how it frames you today. It’s instant and free. I’d run these by hand before starting any paid trial, because they show the framing a buyer sees. The limit is scale. Manual testing breaks down past about 10 prompts, and it can’t replace systematic monitoring across hundreds. 66. Gemini manual check: best for quick Gemini spot checks Gemini’s ties to Google’s knowledge graph mean its description of your brand can differ from ChatGPT’s. Run the same prompts in both to catch inconsistencies, which is the first step to fixing them. 67. Claude manual check: best for quick Claude spot checks Claude is increasingly used for research and recommendations in B2B and technical contexts. Its more analytical style can describe the same brand differently, so it’s worth checking if you sell to professional audiences. What AI visibility tools measure AI visibility tools measure answer inclusion: whether an AI assistant names, cites or recommends your brand when a buyer asks a question in your category. There’s no position 1 in ChatGPT. Visibility is a rate across many prompts and many runs, because the same prompt can return different brands each time. These are the metrics I look for in any tool: Citation presence: whether your brand appears at all when users ask relevant questions. Share of voice (or share of model): how often your brand appears compared with competitors across a prompt set. Citation frequency: how often your specific URLs are referenced as sources. Sentiment and accuracy: whether AI describes you positively, neutrally or negatively, and whether it gets pricing, features and positioning right. Source influence: which pages on your site, or third-party sites, lead the model to mention you. Prompt coverage: which queries trigger your brand and which don’t. Keep mentions and citations apart. A mention names your brand; a citation uses your page as a source, sometimes without naming you, and the two call for different fixes. Why an AI citation is different from a Google ranking Google ranks documents, while AI assistants choose which sources and entities they trust enough to cite, so a page-one ranking helps without guaranteeing a citation. That disconnect is the visibility gap. A brand can rank on page one for a query and be absent from ChatGPT’s answer to the same question. Most assistants use retrieval-augmented generation (RAG): they split a question into sub-queries, fetch passages from several sources and synthesize one answer. The passages that get cited are the ones that answer a sub-query most clearly, with structure and credible sources behind them. A few data points shape how I think about it. Each came from third-party research quoted in our earlier roundups, so check the originals before you repeat them: Top 20 rankings still matter: an analysis of 432,000 keywords found 97% of AI Overviews cite at least one source from the top 20 organic results. The intro does most of the work: 44.2% of LLM citations come from the first 30% of a page, 31.1% from the middle and 24.7% from the final third. Citations drive clicks: being cited in an AI Overview was linked to 35% more organic clicks and 91% more paid clicks than appearing on the same SERP uncited. Answers are unstable: ChatGPT and Google’s AI rarely return the same list of brands twice, and AI Overview rankings can shift substantially within eight weeks. AI Overviews reach fewer queries than at their peak: they appeared for about 16% of Google queries, down from nearly 25% in mid-2025, and click-through rates fell from 15% to 8% where they showed. So I treat classic SEO as the entry ticket. Structured content, E-E-A-T signals, schema and third-party mentions decide who gets picked from the pages that qualify. Two technical points catch teams out. AI crawlers generally can’t execute JavaScript, so client-side rendered content is invisible to them, and some CDNs block AI bots by default. GEO, AEO, LLMO and AI search optimization are four names for the same goal: getting cited when AI answers a question that shapes a purchase. They sit on top of SEO, and the teams that do both see the full picture. How ChatGPT rank tracking works ChatGPT rank trackers send a set of prompts to the model through APIs or live browser sessions, parse each answer for your brand and sources, and score visibility over time. Knowing the mechanics helps you judge vendors. Most purpose-built trackers follow the same six steps: Prompt dataset creation: the tool compiles prompts from your tracked keywords, entities and intent phrases. Model querying: prompts go to ChatGPT and other LLMs to capture live outputs. Response parsing: each answer is scanned for brand mentions, linked domains and indirect references. Attribution mapping: every mention is matched to the source domain behind it. Scoring and normalization: the tool calculates a visibility score from inclusion frequency, citation position and share of voice. Historical trend building: results are stored to show shifts, volatility and citation consistency. The difference between tools is mostly in step 2. API results and what a logged-in user sees in the app can differ when web search changes the answer, which is why Canonry and Profound capture front-end sessions. How to use an AI visibility tool, step by step To get value from an AI visibility tool, fix crawler access first, track prompts that match buyer intent, set a baseline, then turn every gap into a content, technical or PR task. This workflow applies to any tool on the list: Audit AI crawler access: check robots.txt, server logs for AI user agents such as GPTBot, CDN settings, JavaScript rendering, llms.txt, structured data and Bing indexing status. Build a prompt library from buyer intent: map prompts to awareness (“best tool for X”), consideration (“X vs Y”) and decision (“best X for SaaS startups”), and add branded, category and competitor-comparison prompts. Persona-based prompts, Search Console imports and phrasing from Reddit and Quora make the set more realistic. Set a baseline: run your top 10 to 20 queries on each LLM your audience uses and record mention rate, share of voice, sentiment and citation sources. Benchmark competitors: note who appears in the same answers and who replaces you when you drop out. Replacement analysis is the most useful competitive output these tools produce. Audit citation sources: list the domains AI trusts most in your category and target them for PR, partnerships and contributions. Turn gaps into work: a competitor cited for a query you should own is a content brief, and a mention without a citation is a page optimization task. Start with sub-queries, the short, specific questions AI engines ask while building a longer answer. Make pages extractable: front-load facts, use declarative statements, inline definitions, FAQ sections, clear headings and schema, and strengthen E-E-A-T. Pages that rank but don’t get cited often have thin intros or missing schema. Watch sentiment and accuracy: set alerts for negative framing and misrepresentation, then fix the content or off-site signals behind it. An inaccurate mention can cost more than no mention. Report citation KPIs on their own line: AI citation rate, share of voice and prompt coverage are separate from sessions and clicks. Connect them to GA4 and your CRM for attribution. Keep a cadence: weekly checks suit most teams, and daily tracking suits large prompt sets, competitive categories and active campaigns. Correlate every visibility change with the content updates behind it. How to choose an AI visibility tool for your stage and goal Choose an AI visibility tool by matching four things: the AI platforms your buyers use, your budget and pricing model, the SEO stack you already own, and whether you need monitoring, optimization or both. The right tool is the one your team will open every week. So I weigh ease of use as heavily as the feature list. By SaaS company stage Pre-seed to seed: start free with AUQ, LLMrefs, Otterly’s Lite tier, ZipTie’s trial or LPagery, and establish a baseline before spending. Series A to B: a dedicated platform such as Peec AI, Rankscale AI, ZipTie or Otterly gives you multi-engine tracking, competitor benchmarks and exports. Growth and mid-market: AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI and SE Ranking add the depth and ROI diagnostics a systematic GEO program needs. Enterprise: Profound, BrightEdge AI Catalyst, Gauge, seoClarity, OmniSEO, Superprompt and Superlines offer scale, hallucination detection, governance and support. Expect to invest in onboarding and prompt strategy. By goal Goal Tools to shortlist Quick brand visibility check AUQ AI Search Ranking Tool, Mangools AI Search Grader, manual checks Ongoing brand monitoring on a budget ZipTie, Rankshift.ai, Otterly AI, Hall Google AI Overviews only SE Ranking, SEOMonitor, thruuu, SEO.com AI Overview Checker Multi-platform coverage Profound, RivalSee, OmniSEO, Peec AI, AthenaHQ Agency reporting across clients Advanced Web Ranking, AccuRanker, Keyword.com, Peec AI Local search and Gemini “near me” answers Local Falcon, Nightwatch, Localo AI referral traffic measurement GA4 and Looker Studio, Superlines Content optimization for AI citations Surfer, SE Ranking, Rankability, Writesonic, Essio.ai Brand reputation and misinformation Waikay, Goodie AI, Scrunch AI Technical LLM indexability Indexly, Canonry, Trakkr What to check before you buy Multi-model coverage: buyers use ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity interchangeably, and each cites differently. Hallucination detection: the tool should flag answers that get your pricing, features or positioning wrong, because for B2B SaaS those errors cost pipeline. Replacement analysis: it should show which competitor replaced you when you disappeared from an answer. Citation pathing: it should show which review sites, forums and publications the AI reads to form its view of you. Actionable recommendations: visibility gaps should translate into specific content, technical or schema work. History and exports: look for stored history, exports, an API, and BigQuery or Looker Studio connectors if you build your own dashboards. Pricing model: credit-based tools (Rankscale, Keyword.com) suit variable volumes, flat subscriptions (Otterly, ZipTie) suit steady monitoring, and enterprise tools (BrightEdge, seoClarity, Profound) need custom contracts. Compliance and languages: check SOC 2, GDPR and CCPA handling and multilingual tracking if you sell across markets. Match coverage to your audience too. If buyers live in Google products, prioritize AI Overviews and Gemini; in technical or research-heavy verticals, add Claude. A free AI visibility tracking workflow You can run a working AI visibility program for $0 by combining a free checker, manual prompts, free tiers and GA4. Baseline: run the AUQ AI Search Ranking Tool and Mangools AI Search Grader, then check the same prompts by hand in ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude. Access: check robots.txt and your CDN for blocked AI bots, and use Indexly’s trial for LLM indexability. Ongoing tracking: put your top prompts on a free tier such as Hall Lite, Rankshift.ai, LLMrefs or Knowatoa and check weekly. Traffic: filter AI referrals in GA4 and chart them in Looker Studio. Upgrade: move to a paid plan once you’ve exhausted the free data and know which extra prompts, platforms or history you need. Free data is enough to find your top three to five priorities. Paid plans add prompt volume, longer history, more models, alerts and client-ready reports, and most offer 7 to 14 day trials. What to do with the data: mentions, listicles and citations The fastest way to move AI visibility numbers is to get your brand named on the pages AI engines already cite, and brand mentions deserve the same attention as backlinks. Two behaviors explain why. Models learn from how often words appear together, so a brand repeatedly named alongside its category and competitors gets treated as part of that set. And assistants summarize the pages they fetch, so a brand named in a cited page lands in the answer whether or not the mention carried a link. Listicles are the highest-return format, because assistants reach for them on comparison questions: Get into the lists that already rank: use your tool’s citation sources to find them, then pitch or pay for a placement. Build a gap list: every “best [category]” page that names your competitors and leaves you out is an outreach target. Publish comparisons that include competitors: a roundup that names only your own product rarely gets cited. Keep lists current: best-of queries reward recency. Make each entry extractable: product name, a one-sentence description and an explicit category label. This is the work we do for clients. For fraud.net, content automation for GEO produced 1,230 AI Overview citations, a 5.6% AI share of voice and 937,000 monthly impressions by April 2026. If you’d like a team to run it, see AUQ’s AI SEO agency service, or compare options in our list of the best AI SEO agencies for SaaS. Final thoughts AI visibility tracking is now a standard part of SEO reporting, and the tool matters less than what you do with the numbers. Start with a free baseline, add a paid platform when the gaps justify it, and spend most of your effort earning mentions on the pages AI already trusts. A weekly habit will move the numbers further than a bigger budget. Measure it, then get named.
