out of 100. Low band. Restate is cited in 11 of 39 AI answers, and every one of those 11 sits inside its own vocabulary: the seven durable execution queries and the four Restate comparison queries. Outside that vocabulary it is cited zero times. The score is low not because the brand is weak where it competes, but because the surface it owns is narrow and, on the broader themes, a rival owns the sources instead.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Restate scores 30 of 100 for AI Overview visibility. The work is closing the citation and identity gaps.

AI answers fire on 100% of tracked queries, yet Restate is quoted in only 28% of them. When it does appear, it sits present but never first. Across the seven durable execution answers Restate's own domain lands ninth, fourth, second, ninth, third, sixth and seventh among cited sources, and Temporal is the lead source on five of them. Restate leads only on its own alternatives and Restate vs Temporal queries..

IDENTITY IN AI OVERVIEWS

How the brand describes itself, and how Google's AI describes it.

What the brand says about itself

Durable Execution

Restate calls itself the durable runtime for agents and backends: a low-latency runtime for resilient, stateful applications, built around durable handlers, virtual objects, durable queues and timers, with Replit and Capital One named as proof.restate.dev, 2026

Differentiators it leads with: Durable execution runtime, not a workflow scheduler, Low latency and stateful, aimed at request-path code, Agent runtime positioning for AI platforms, Open source with a managed cloud and bring-your-own-cloud option.

What Google's AI says

Durable execution vendor, listed next to Temporal, Inngest and DBOS

On durable execution queries the AI treats Restate as one of the three or four credible options and usually quotes Temporal first.
On the comparison queries it quotes Restate's own pages, and on two of the four it quotes Hacker News and Reddit ahead of them.
The core gap
Restate presents itself across five surfaces: durable execution, workflow orchestration, AI agent runtime, microservice orchestration and event-driven workflows. The AI recognises exactly one of them. Two of the misses are mistranslations rather than losses. Ask about workflow orchestration and the answer is business process software, Wrike, Kissflow, Pega and Moxo. Ask about AI agent runtimes and the answer is security and observability vendors led by Orca Security. No durable execution vendor appears in either. The two real losses are event-driven workflows and microservice orchestration, where direct rivals are cited and Restate is not.

Problem Aware. Someone who does not yet know the phrase durable execution will not meet Restate. The problem-stage language in this market is event-driven, orchestration and agent reliability, and Restate is cited on none of it.

Solution Aware. Once the buyer knows the category term, Restate appears reliably: cited on all seven durable execution queries. It is never the source the answer leads with, which is the gap worth closing first.

Alternatives. Strongest stage. Restate is cited on all four comparison queries and leads two of them. On Restate vs Inngest and Restate vs DBOS the AI reaches for Hacker News, Reddit and a rival's docs before the brand's own comparison page.

QUERIES WE TESTED

Every query we ran against Google's AI Overview, and what we found.

39 queries across branded, positioning, and comparison intent. "Cited" means Restate's own domain is a source in the AI answer. "Named, not cited" means the brand is mentioned but is not the source. "Absent" means the AI answered without it.

THREE FINDINGS THAT MATTER
01

The brand is missing from 72% of AI-answer queries

All 39 queries triggered an AI answer, so there is no question of whether this surface matters for the category. Restate is cited in 11 of them, and all 11 are durable execution or Restate comparison queries.

02

AI misreads the category

Reading
The sources winning the answers Restate is missing are not its rivals' product pages. They are category explainers and talks: Kestra on 16 queries, Orkes on 12, IBM on 10, Camunda on 9, plus conference and podcast video on 21. Where Restate is cited, the pattern inverts and its own domain does the work. Closing the gap means being present in independent explainer content, not publishing more of its own.

Key observation
Two different pictures sit in this list. Kestra, Orkes, Camunda and IBM win the orchestration themes with explainer content Restate has no equivalent of. Temporal, cited on five of the seven event-driven workflow answers, is the one direct rival taking a theme Restate says it serves. The video and community citations, 21 from video and 10 from Reddit, show the AI reaching for practitioner discussion wherever vendor sources are thin.
90-DAY ROADMAP

Three sprints from first wins to compounding category presence.

Month 1  ·  Days 1 to 30
  • Restate is cited on all seven durable execution queries but leads none of them. Rebuild the category explainer so it answers the definitional question first and the product question second, which is the shape the AI quotes from.
  • Strengthen the four comparison pages. Restate leads its own alternatives and Temporal comparisons, but on Restate vs Inngest and Restate vs DBOS the AI leans on Hacker News, Reddit and a rival's docs before the brand's own page.
Month 2  ·  Days 31 to 60
  • Publish event-driven workflow content that names the failure modes, not the tooling category. Temporal is cited on five of those seven queries and Restate on none, so this is a contested theme rather than a closed one.
  • Earn mentions in the independent explainers and community threads the AI already trusts here: developer blogs, Hacker News, Reddit and the conference talk transcripts that keep surfacing.
Month 3  ·  Days 61 to 90
  • Decide explicitly whether to contest microservice orchestration. Orkes, Camunda, IBM and Kong hold those answers with orchestration-engine framing that Restate does not currently use.
  • Re-measure the same 39 queries. Track lead source share on durable execution and first citations on event-driven workflows as the two signals that matter.
